In case you were wondering, Zaja means God is my oath…

Or my God is abundance. A derivative of Elizabeth, it also means Lily. It’s loyal, pure and promising like our work.

Azania Herron

Principal Owner + Senior Public Relations Strategist

A first-generation American of Caribbean descent who grew up in the diverse community of Washington, D.C., Azania established an understanding and deep appreciation for the role community development, infrastructure, public transportation, access to jobs, cultural events, diversity of neighbors and social programs play in one’s quality of life. Having moved away and examined other cities, she realized that lives were directly impacted, positively or negatively, depending on the existence or absence of these basic needs and additional amenities. With this insight, Azania merged her lifelong interest in communications with a focus on public policy, services and programs.

A public and community relations professional with nearly 20 years of experience, Azania has created, implemented and guided strategic communications and engagement opportunities for companies, organizations and government agencies. She approaches her work with hope and joy and has secured media coverage in national outlets including HuffPost, Essence, Financial Planning, Univision, NPR, Wealth Management and thousands of local print, television, radio, and digital media outlets including podcasts and blogs. Azania has managed external and internal communications, integrated communications, community relations projects, and high-stakes public affairs and crises at the national and local level  for communities across the United States. A majority of her work has focused on creating more viable communities by supporting public programs, housing and community development, nonprofit organizations, businesses, cultural events and transformational leaders.

She is a strong writer and public speaker with a keen ability to resonate with target audiences.  Azania is a board member for the Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists, previously served on the Community Relations Board for the City of Charlotte, and regularly supports and attends arts & cultural events. Azania has a dual bachelor's degree in public relations and policy studies from the nation’s leading communications and public affairs schools, Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs/The College of Arts & Sciences.
